Bouwe Bekking to skipper Mumma Duck Sailing Team

Delft, 25 March 2010

During the last few weeks the Mumma Duck team was expanded with one of the most familiar names in high-level sailing. During Spi Ouest 2010 the young and ambitious team will be led and skippered by Bouwe Bekking on tactics.

Bouwe Bekking
Bouwe Bekking, born on June 17th in Deventer, has been an avid sailor since he could walk. After an early start on the river the IJssel Bouwe turned into one of the most respected and sought after sailors in the sailing world.

Bouwe is involved in many different sailing projects, but is especially known for his five around the world races, for example as skipper of the Telefonica Blue in 2008/2009. Furthermore he has extensive achievements as skipper, driver or tactician on a large variety of classes, including 4 time world-championship, 4 time European-champion and events like the Admirals Cup.

Spi Ouest
After a good first race of the year during the Primo Cup in Monaco the Mumma Duck team will have their second race of the year in La Trinité sur Mer at the Spi Ouest 2010. The last months was dominated by training, during the hours on the Dutch Haringvliet we especially focused on the starts and the offshore handling.

There are already 22 boats expected during the event, the team will have their work cut out with several competitors preparing for the Tour de France. Especially the return of the German, Belgium, Swiss and American teams are a good herald for the competitors of the Tour 2010!

The Crew
The crew of the Spi Ouest 2010 will consist of Bouwe Bekking on tactics; Rikst will helm the boat, with Pieter and Rodny responsible for the upwind Trim. Ralph will trim the spinnaker, David and Rob will focus on the boat handling in the pit and on the bow.

Onshore Remond and Jan will be responsible for PR, taking photos and maintaining the website.

Targets
During the event we hope to start where we finished off during the Primo Cup. Even though we have Bouwe Bekking on tactics, the focus will be to transfer as much knowledge as possible to the complete crew. Everybody is looking forward to working with Bouwe!
