Trinité sur Mer, 3 April 2010
The weather forecast wasn’t too good for today. The start was already postponed by two hours yesterday evening. The Mummaduck team left harbour and after they did a test run, they had to go back. There wouldn’t be much racing today.
About 11 o’clock this morning the team went out on the water. By this time the wind speed reached 25 knots. The Farr 30 and the IRC classes were only allowed to go outside; the other classes had to stay in the harbour. They sailed upwind to the course and tested the storm jib. And after sailing a short round in the starting area, we saw Toulon broaching with their spinnaker up. Later on we heard that other teams broke their boom and forestay. The committee decided to cancel the races and everybody headed back to the harbour.
On the way back the team hoisted their fractional spinnaker for some testing. Bouwe and Rikst both steered back on high speed. Even a rib from the press came by and followed them for about 5 minutes we hope that he made wonderful photos. We would really like to have those, if someone knows who it was, let us know! The whole team enjoyed the trip back and came in with a big smile.
Back onshore there were some things to fix and prepare for tomorrow. Rob installed some new features on the clocks; those have to work properly again. And after an hour the committee made a final decision to cancel all the races.
Tomorrow will be a new day and it’s looking good; the prediction will be up to 15 knots, still a lot of boats. And maybe the sun will be there as well. Keep in touch!
