Trinité sur Mer, 4 April 2010
Today’s weather was much better then yesterday, a 15 knot breeze and a sun. On this nice Easter Sunday four races were planned and raced.
After a pretty good start in the first race the team lost some places in the upwind leg. The mark roundings however went smooth. The last downwind leg was very good and we won five places resulting in a seventh position at the finish. Despite the bad upwind performance, Bouwe did a very good job on tactics and the boat handling was much better then yesterday.
The second start was another good one and resulted in a 6th place at the first upwind. Lots of boats went for the left hand side of the upwind leg. All these boats on port tack looking for a clear spot to round the upwind mark gave some problems and we made fysical with Groovederci and had to make two 360’s. Getting into the downwind leg the team was in de back of the fleet.
During race three and four the team kept struggling with the upwind speed and pointing. We lost places there. Downwind speed and handling at the marks still were good. We finished these races in 14th and 15th position.
To find a solution for the upwind performance we decided to take a good look at the rigging and mast setting. We found some differences which might have caused the problems with speed and pointing upwind.
Tomorrow an early start. First warning signal at 9:30. Probably two races. The team is very eager to sails those two races with good results.
