Delft, 22 April 2010
While it was only three weeks ago that the Mumma Duck sailing team was led by Bouwe Bekking, today we can proudly announce that Laurent Pages will skipper the team during the Tour de France à la Voile 2010 and the Normandy Sailing Week. Next week the team will sail their third event of the season: Grand Prix Atlantique in Pornichet.
Laurent Pages
French sailor Laurent Pages, born October 20, 1976, developed into a well-known name in the international sailing world. Although he is a multiple French champion in boats like the Farr 30, Farr 40 and Melges 24, Laurent gathered his fame in international teams like Joe Fly and Groovedecci in the last few years. His most recent feat was a third place during the Volvo Ocean Race as watch-captain aboard Telefonica Blue.
Sailing his sixth Tour de France á la Voile 2010 with us, he will be responsible for the tactics and navigation and of course to lead the team as skipper during our most important event.
GP Atlantique
The next race for the team will be the GP Atlantique in Pornichet. After Spi Ouest there has been a lot of work done on the comments from Bouwe Bekking. Both on boat handling and trim the team made big improvements.
The fleet will consist seventeen teams, including newcomers Oman Sail and the Dutch student team TUDelft/Delft Challenge. The team will be supported by Yann Riou during this event, which will include our first offshore race.
Yann, responsible for the electronics at the Groupama team, will use his broad knowledge of offshore sailing, navigation and navigation-equipment to prepare the team and the boat for the long offshores during the Tour de France à la Voile 2010.
The crew
The crew for the GP Atlantique will consist Thijs as helmsman, Anton on the mainsail, Yann is responsible for the navigation and tactics, Koen de Smedt on Genua and Ralph on the spi. Rob and David will be as No. 1 in the pit on the offshore boat handling.
Targets
During the event the team will pay attention to the lessons learned from Bouwe Bekking, also they will focus their attention on all aspect of offshore sailing. Both the navigation equipment and boat lay-out will be extensively checked and evaluated this event.
