North Sea Regatta: A hard day

Scheveningen, 23 May 2010

It was a hard day at the office today. Despite the much better temperature of today it was a difficult day for the team. With some problems with starting and at the mark rounding they had to fight really hard for their position. But they can't complain about the results, with a first and second place it's still a satisfying weekend.

The start of the first race wasn't the best start ever. After making some mistakes at the markings, by wrong estimating the layline there was some time lost on Delft Challenge. At the last downwind they could catch up with Delft Challenge and finish ten seconds behind them in a second place.

In the second race the start wasn't brilliant too. After this start they choose as the only one the right side of the track, because there was much more wind. This resulted in a small lead in front of Delft Challenge up to the upper mark. At the upper mark the team could overtake one of the IRC2 boats, which a few moments later would block Delft Challenge. This gave the Mumma Duck a little bit more breathing space. Downwind it was time to defend the first place. In the end Delft Challenge couldn't overtake and it was another win for the Mumma Duck team, but just with a little lead.

Afterwards it was time to have some diner at Scheveningen with the team. This was a nice and cosy diner. After having some drinks it was time to get some sleep. Tomorrow it is time to finish the job and hopefully stay in the highest spot of rankings.
