Dunkerque, 24 June 2010
Monday evening the first of the MummaDuck crew left for Dunkerque, the "bakwagen" with our complete kitchen and supply store arrived on schedule and prepared our tents and the large party-tent for further use. The boat arrived in a little bit later, because of an unscheduled detour but without any significant problems.
The next day we enjoyed our breakfast in the emerging sunshine on the parking lot of the Dunkerque marina, with a wide variety of teams and shore teams of the different boats closing in on the same location. The first job on a small but effective list is wet sanding the boat: a job that requires a lot of water, time and people but makes your boat significantly quicker! During the day the team switched to other chores: preparing our safety equipment, polishing the boat, hullkoting the boat, cleaning etc. etc. At the end of the day Rodny (our temporary, replacement chef de Quisine) prepared a divine Pasta Bolognese.
Our job list for the next few days is relatively simple, Thursday the boat will receive its mast and touch the water for the first time, a couple of small safety checks will be done. Friday we will a small training session in which we can test our new sails, super-quick hull and well trained crew against some French and Dutch teams.
