From Plenuef to Lorient

Lorient, 9 July 2010

Just a small update for today. Two days ago the boats left Plenuef Val Andre for a trip to Lorient. After almost 48 hours (!!) they arrived at the harbour. With a good start it looked like it was going to be the best finish so far during this Tour. But with a difficult second night they lost a lot of places.

During the first day the Mumma Duck was in the top six from the start till almost the second evening. During this evening (and night) there was almost no wind and the current was against them. All the boats stayed at the coast only just a few went out on the see. Only Ill de France had some advantage when they went out on the see. And after that they had to anchor for almost six hours and a lot of boats passed them during that time. Finally they reached the harbour of Lorient today around two o'clock. The harbour is an interesting place, beside that there are a lot of nice trimarans from all the big teams; it's the base where Germany had their submarines during the World War Two. We even have a submarine in our backyard!

For now there is some time to rest for the sailors before some of them can go on board again tomorrow for some inshore races or a coastal race. This evening Rob and Mijke will arrive. They will sail their first races later this week.
