Royan, 16 July 2010
Today the team had to wake up early again, at 06:00, to leave the docks at 7:30 for the second day of inshore race at Royan. With two races planned, a 6 to 10 knot breeze and a nice sun it was bound to be a great day for racing.
The committee placed the race course one hour sailing out to sea. After some delays due to unstable wind directions and two general recalls the Mumma Duck started at the pin end with good speed and a nice position, choosing the left hand side of the upwind beat. The left side paid off as only Nouvelle-Caledonie rounded the top mark in front.
In the first downwind leg boat speed wasn't great but the team managed to stay in front of the fleet. Nouvelle-Caledonie however lengthened their lead with about 5 boat lengths. The Mumma Duck gained a lot on the leading French team by rounding the right mark and took the lead after a tack duel. In the downwind Nouvelle-Caledonie and Oman had a slightly better boat speed and gained some lengths but couldn't close the gap; the Mummad Duck team cashed their second first place in this Tour!
With no more races the fleet returned to the harbour and prepared for the haul out. This evening all boats and the 'Village Assistance' will leave Royan and drive to Port Camarque. The next races are scheduled for Monday morning in the blue waters of the Mediterranean.
