After taking the blue spinnaker yesterday, with just one point, it was time to defend it during the today's offshore. The forecasts were good but they didn't expect that there was that much wind. With 30 knots of wind the organisation decided to cancel the race. A lot of teams had damage on their boats, even two masts are broken.
The start of the race was a bit too late. At the first mark they were in 10th position, by staying on the high side they tried to get back in the front. Some boats immediately hoisted their fractional spi but the team waited to hoist that one. Until the wind reached the 25 knots they stayed close to the coast and sailed up to a second place! While the Mumma Duck was back at the front a lot of others boats got in trouble. Many had their spi in rags even Dunkerque and Grooverderci broke their mast! St. Malo in first position was the only one who sailed with their masthead spinnaker at that time. Not much later the committee decided, unfortunately, to cancel the race.
Today the team would have gained more points on the other amateur teams if the races weren't cancelled. Tomorrow is the last chance to defend the blue spinnaker. But there is a lot of wind again in the forecast. We will see how many races there will be, otherwise…
